S1 E13 – Too Far From Texas, Too Long For Billy Joel

Stevie Nicks was scheduled to play Dallas in April 2023 on a double bill with Billy Joel. Randy was gifted tickets to the show and promptly called Anthony to arrange some Stevie Shenanigans. Unfortunately, Stevie contracted COVID and the show was postponed…FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR.

The upside to this was that Ranthony (as we have named ourselves), had this to look forward to after Randy’s heart attack in January.

We met in Dallas on Thursday, March 7th. We arrived within an hour of each other at DFW, so we were able to über to the hotel together. The Renaissance St. Elm Dallas was our home base for the next three days. It’s a great hotel for music lovers, with vinyl everywhere and a turntable in each room. We got settled and started exploring the downtown area. We soon found Parterre, an adorable little place with great cocktails and a jazz combo.

Jazz Babies

Friday was a full day of adventure. Our breakfast waiter, Richie at the hotel restaurant was a Fellow Traveler, whose attachment to Olivia Newton-John rivaled our Stevie connection.

Lunch was a fancy affair at Zodiac, the restaurant inside Neiman-Marcus. Anthony ordered the $55 glass of champagne, and I had one of the best vodka martinis of my life. After lunch we went to Black Cat Records and Comics, which was in a very odd location, but the staff was SO FRIENDLY (Hi Patty!). Anthony and I had been on the fence about the new Tom King run on Wonder Woman, but the store happened to have the first 6 issues, so we grabbed them up and headed back to the hotel for some down time and comic reading (for the record, we LOVED what we read).

Now it’s concert day. Listen/Watch the podcast for a recap of the show, but we would be remiss not to mention three very important things from that day:

Drag Brunch at Hamburger Mary’s!

    Anthony’s Custom Stevie Nicks Hoodie!

    The Goddess herself

Until next time, we’ll see you on The Other Side of the Mirror!
